Hi! I'm Beth, President of PSC. I am also VP of St. Charles PFLAG. I grew up in O'Fallon. I identify as straight and use she/her pronouns. I have worked for the Wentzville School District for the past 20 years. Currently, I work at Timberland HS in the Athletic Office. My husband and I have one child, our son Zak. He came out to us as gay, when he was 14 years old. Our first concern was for his safety & emotional well being. He was bullied while in high school which made for a very unpleasant experience for him.
It made me realize as my husband and I got more involved in PFLAG, that our community needed more LGBTQ acceptance. We both want our son to live in a community where he doesn't have to fear being himself. Living in this area most of my life, it was clear that someone needed to do something. I had a conversation with PFLAG President, Jill Aul, while we were covering our PFLAG table at Pride St. Louis in 2014. I asked Jill if we had any type of Pride celebration in St. Charles County, she laughed and told me no. I said well, it's about time we do. That was the beginning of what is now Pride St. Charles. I'm proud to have been a part of starting this movement to bring awareness, education and acceptance to our area. We were so fortunate to have found so many passionate & talented people to make our Pride festival bigger and more beautiful than we imagined.
Pride St. Charles was created out of my deep love for my son & will continue to be my passion project for many years to come. We have made some strides within St. Charles County, but we are excited about all the work there is left to do. We will make St. Charles County a community where everyone is accepted for who they are & can live & do business within this community without exclusion or discrimination.
